The best bit, and nothing but

We've been making Australia's waffle cones since 1984. Tippies are the part we could never stop thinking about.

There's a small ritual at the end of an ice cream cone that nobody had to teach you. You work your way down, the ice cream goes, and what's left is the tip — crisp, with a little pool of choc sitting in the bottom of it. It's the reward. It's the best bit. And it's over in one bite.

We'd know. We make the cone.

Since 1984

The business was originally started in 1984 by a young Danish family who couldn't find, anywhere in Australia, the waffle cone they'd grown up with at home. So they made it themselves. Our family took the business on in 1996 and moved production north to Murwillumbah, in the Tweed Valley, where it has been ever since.

Four decades on we're still family-owned, and our cones still turn up in ice cream shops, gelato bars and cafés across Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific. Which means we have spent an unusually long time thinking about the tip of a cone, and we know exactly which bit gets saved for last.

Eventually the obvious question won. Why is the best bit also the smallest part?

Harder than it sounds

Making the tip on its own turned out to be a different job from making a cone. It has to stay properly crisp in a pouch on a shelf, it has to hold its choc without going soft. And it has to taste like the thing you remember, rather than like a novelty version of it.

Having the ovens and forty years of recipe behind us helped. It still took a while. We spent over a year and many boxes of choc to create the perfect treat.

Made where the cones are made

Tippies are proudly made in Murwillumbah. The water there happens to have exactly the chemistry you want for baking. The raw sugar is locally grown in the valley around us. The wheat is stored whole and milled the day before delivery.

No freezer, no cold chain, no drips — just the best bit of the cone in a resealable pouch, in three flavours: smooth milk, rich dark and creamy white.

What's next

Right now you'll find Tippies here, shipped straight to your door anywhere in Australia. We're also talking to gourmet grocers, gelato bars, cafés and gift retailers about putting them on the shelf — and if we already send you cones, this is an easy second line. If that's you, we'd love to hear from you.
