10 Ways to Use Tippies (Besides Eating Them Straight From the Pouch)
Share
We should say up front: there is nothing wrong with eating Tippies straight from the pouch. Most of them go that way. But the little cone shape turns out to be surprisingly useful in the dessert department, so here are ten ideas, roughly in order of effort.
1. The sundae upgrade. Ice cream in a bowl, Tippies pushed in point-up around the edge. Every spoonful gets the option of a crunchy choc-filled bite. This is the single best effort-to-payoff ratio in this list.
2. The milkshake garnish. One Tippie balanced on the whipped cream, one on the saucer. A milkshake with a cone tip on top looks like it came from somewhere you'd queue for.
3. The dessert board. Cheese boards had their decade. A dessert board — Tippies in all three flavours, fresh berries, something biscuity, a bowl of cream — takes ten minutes to assemble and disappears faster than anything you've ever baked.
4. The cake decoration. Press Tippies point-out around the top edge of an iced cake, or scatter them like little mountains. They hold their crunch far better than most decorations, and they're the first thing eaten off every slice.
5. The affogato sidecar. Espresso over vanilla ice cream, two dark choc Tippies on the side. The dark choc against the coffee is, frankly, the most adult thing in this list.
6. The pavlova finish. Whipped cream, passionfruit, berries — and Tippies stood in the cream just before serving. The crunch is the point; add them last.
7. The kids' baking assistant. Little cones make excellent horns, hats, rooftops and trees on anything a small person is decorating. (The melty aftermath is part of the experience.)
8. The ice cream sandwich bonus. Crush a few Tippies and roll the edges of an ice cream sandwich in the pieces. Waffle crunch, choc bits, no regrets.
9. The hot drink sidekick. A Tippie on the saucer beside a hot drink does the job of a fancy biscuit, but better, because the centre softens just slightly if you wait. We rarely wait.
10. The trail mix heresy. A handful of Tippies through a bowl of nuts and dried fruit. We accept that this is controversial. We stand by it.
